Hello Fellow Wine, Beer and Cheese Lovers,
We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. Though the weather may not have been perfect the Central Coast is still paradise and you do not have to worry about tornados.
Epic Wednesday Join us today for our last Epic Wednesday before summer; Epic Wednesday will be on summer vacation until late September. Please join the Albert and Beto the chefs of Epic Catering tonight for a small plate and some wine. The food for the last three weeks has been awesome and the wine is great too. Epic Wednesday is from 5:00 – 7:00 PM; stop this evening on your way home and relax.
Sake Thursday Tomorrow we will taste Sake, bring a friend and taste the beverage the Japanese have been producing for hundreds of years. If you love sushi then you have probably had sake; most likely warm which is OK but the cold sake is the best. Tomorrow we will be serving five different sakes including one produced here in the U.S. The sake tasting is from 5:00 – 9:00 PM and will cost $10.00. Please pass this e-mail on to any sake lover you know we want them to try these fine sakes.
Blended Friday This Friday, May 30th we are drinking blends. More wineries are offering different blends and blends can take the best of the components and create many layers of deliciousness. We will be drinking local blends both white and red as well as one or two from out of our country. We hope you will join us we know there is a wine or two in this line-up that is sure to please everyone. Like every Friday the tasting starts at 5:00 PM and goes until 8:00 PM. The cost is $10.00.
Friday, June 6th Mecaela and Katrina’s Selections On Friday June 6th please join us as Mecaela and Katrina select their favorite wines in the shop to share with you. This is their last hurrah before graduating and heading off into the working world. You get to find out what they like and compare notes with them about the wine. We hope you will come by and give them a proper send off. If you cannot make Friday, June 6th we will have wine and cake for them on Saturday, June 7th from 2-4 PM.
What’s New!! 2004 Domaine des Senechaux Chateauneuf du Pape; is back. We were out of stock for awhile but this affordable and drinkable Rhone blend is back and we highly recommend this wine, $43.00. The fruit profile is red cherry and blackberry with a black tea note and some earthiness that is enhanced by a light oak component. This wine will get better with age over the next 3-8 years but it is drinkable now with decanting. Serve with grilled lamb or venison or your favorite fillet.
2006 Man Chenin Blanc from South Africa was the hit of our International tasting last Friday. A white wine with hints of citrus and apple, crisp and refreshing with a lingering finish; a great wine for sipping or with your favorite lighter meal. $8.99
We hope that you have a wonderful day and will stop by the shop for a tasting or just to pick up a bottle of wine or beer.

Hello Fellow Wine, Beer and Cheese Lovers,
We hope that you are well on this fine blustery spring day. Many of our customers have remarked that they would like the wind to subside. We agree but if it is going to blow stay inside and drink your favorite beverage. Wind is part of many of the great wine regions of the world, especial the Rhone Valley in France; the winds are know as the Mistral. According to Wikipedia, The Mistral in France is a fresh or cold, often violent, and usually dry wind, blowing throughout the year but is most frequent in winter and spring. It blows from the northwest or north of Europe through the valley of the Rhône River to the Mediterranean. [1] It also affects the whole of Sardinia in Italy.
Special thanks to all our customers who supported the Oak-Free Chardonnay tasting last Friday and helped Doug celebrate his milestone birthday.
Having Trouble Seeing the Wine
Are you blind? No but the brown bags do not help. This Friday we will taste some new wines but you won’t see the wines until we remove the bags. The wines will be fun around the world with a few California interspersed. This is a great way to focus on the wine and your wine vocabulary; bring a friend to compare notes with. The tasting is from 5:00 – 8:00 PM and will cost $10.00.
Another Mid-Week Tasting
On Wednesday, April 30 Peter Fraser, winemaker of Yangarra Estate Vineyard in McLaren Vale Australia will be here pour his wines. Straight off the boat, no the plane Peter will be focused on his Rhone varietal wines, He will be pouring Grenache, Shiraz, Syrah he makes here in California and a Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre blend. The wines are very good quality and Peter knows a lot about winemaking in Australia and is willing to share his knowledge. Please make time next Wednesday to stop by and see Peter and try the wines. The tasting is from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and will cost $10.00.
Eden Canyon Vineyards Here
On Friday, May 4th Elaine Villamin will be here pouring the wines of Eden Canyon Vineyards. Elaine is talented and fun to be around. She is California’s only Pilipino female winemaker; this may maker her different but talent is talent and we love her wines.
Masi Amarone Dinner at Novo
There are still a few seats left for the dinner at Novo, May 5th; the price is $75.00 and the evening will be very special. Please call the wine shop for reservation. (805) 541-1255

Hello Fellow Wine, Beer and Cheese Lovers,
Everyday brings new and exciting ideas and items to add to the to-do list, but these things keep us young and moving forward.
Some of the Favorites
Friday, April 11th we will taste some of our favorite wines from our Friday tastings of the first quarter of this year. Yes, we will show off some of our favorites; Casa Silva, Testarossa, McPrice Myers, and a few new ones. If you have missed some of the past Friday tastings you do not want to miss this one. There are plenty of good wines and the new wines are exciting as well. The tasting is from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM and costs $12.00. Bring a friend or meet a friend but show up and taste these fine wines.
Unoaked Chardonnay
Yes, next Friday, April 18th we will be hosting Fintan du Fresne, winemaker for Domaine Alfred and Nathan Carlson, winemaker at Tolosa Winery for a No-Oak Chardonnay tasting. No matter how you crush the grape; if you call it Unoaked, Oak-free, No-Oak, or naked, it all means the wine never saw the inside of an oak barrel and the winemaker never tossed an oak chip into its happy home in a stainless steel tank. We will taste five different Chardonnays which were only aged in stainless steel. Nathan and Finn will be able to talk with you about the wines they made and then how they feel chardonnay production is changing. You can ask them what makes each of these wines so unique, and what techniques they use to get the best tasting chardonnay. This will be a fun Friday tasting with two great winemakers who are also handsome and intelligent; you won’t want to miss the tasting. The tasting will be from 5:00 – 8:00 PM and cost $10.00.
What’s New!!
Italy produces some great cheese and we have another one, Perla Grigia. This northern Italian cheese is semi-soft cow’s milk which has small slices of black truffles added. The rind is rubbed with ash and spices such as cinnamon and cardamom. This cheese is truly unique and tasteee!
We just received the 2007 Calina Reserva Chardonnay from Chile’s Valle de Casablanca; this wine is very good; the subtle aromas of pineapple and tropical fruit gently waft from the glass and the light oak character accents this beautiful bouquet. The winemaker did a great job allowing the fruit to shine through but giving the wine a soft light buttery characteristic with the gentle nuance of oak on the pallet. This wine is a winner for $7.99; the best $8.00 chardonnay we have tasted this year. This wine will be a hit for everyday drinking at home or for Mother’s Day Brunch, a graduation party or that wedding that might be coming up in the near future.
2006 Calina Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon from the Valle Central in Chile is another big hit; $7.99. The rich fruit characteristic is enhanced by subtle nuances of oak and spice. This fruit forward wine fill the bill for the next red to serve at your party or have with tonight’s dinner. This winemaker for Calina has hit a home run with these wines; stop by and grab a bottle and make them your new favorites.
Organic Beer
Bison Red Ale from Bison Brewing in Berkeley, Ca is the latest addition to our beer selection. This is certified organic ale which some of our customers sampled before we ordered it and gave it the two thumbs up. The big hop flavor marries with the slight hop bitterness; there are also hints of caramel and rich maltiness which make this medium-bodied beer great drinking.
We also have Bison Brewing’s Chocolate Stout; rich, dark, and smooth with a hint of chocolate that does not overpower the beer; a stout lover’s beer that can be appreciated by every beer drinker.
More new items
We have other new items which we let you know about next week and we just placed an order fifteen minutes ago for more wine so stop by soon and have a look.
Have a wonderful day and enjoy this amazing weather.
